X-Ray Diffraction

X-Ray Diffraction

XRD uses x-ray beams to beat the surface of sample through incident beam optics, which will produce diffraction and superposition of the beams. The diffracted beams go into the generator to create the XRD spectrum. Different materials with different structures and components will produce characteristic diffraction spectrums, which allows for analysis with qualification and quantification for different materials.

Main Application/Advantages

  • The main application of XRD is for material structure analysis, such as crystal structure and crystal orientation, % crystalline and crystallite size, layer defects and structure identification of powder samples. An example of this is TiC coating analysis.
