Introduction
A wide range of plating types are used in the electronics industry. These include gold, electrolytic and electroless nickel, palladium nickel, tin, and ENIG plating. These plating techniques are used in the production of such products as hard disks, probe testers, PCBs, battery contacts and resistors.
Each plating type has its particular properties and advantages:
- Gold - corrosion resistance, conductivity, solderability
- Nickel - decorative, corrosion and wear resistant
- Electroless nickel - uniformity, corrosion and wear resistance
- Palladium nickel - corrosion and wear resistance and durability
- Tin - solderability and corrosion resistance
- ENIG - consistency of plating thickness, solderability, corrosion and wear resistance
