PALLADIUM PLATING

Introduction

Palladium is a rare precious metal that is a lustrous silvery-white in colour. It can be used as a finishing surface and is also sometimes used as a middle layer to prevent copper base material diffusion, color change or corrosion.

Main Application /Advantages

  • Palladium plating can be used on watches, jewelry and phones. Its main advantages include its bright and shiny appearance, good corrosion resistance and good wear resistance.

Palladium Nickel Plating

  • Palladium nickel plating uses an alloy of palladium (80%) and nickel (20%). It can be used as an alternative to replace hard gold in the connector industry due to its lower cost. Sometimes a thin layer of gold will be plated over the palladium-nickel alloy to retain the gold color.

Main Application / Advantages

  • Palladium nickel plating can be used for electronic parts. It offers good connection resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance. It is also much cheaper than hard gold, and has low internal stress.
